OBON TEA CEREMONY EXPERIENCE (2-4P)

The Simplified Way of Tea from Meiji

45 min
From 5,000 Japanese yen
Mandaracha Kyoto

Service Description

This version of the Tea Ceremony experience offers a relaxed and modern introduction to the art of Japanese tea-making, combining tradition and accessibility. Designed for small groups of 2–4 people, this personal and interactive experience is led by Laura of MANDARACHA Tea House, an experienced tea practitioner with a deep passion for Japanese culture. The ceremony features the "OBON TEMAE", a simplified and beginner-friendly style of tea preparation. In this approach, matcha is prepared and served on a tray (obon) rather than in the traditional, formal setting. As part of the Bonryaku Temae, it emphasizes essential techniques, making it an approachable way to experience the beauty, mindfulness, and harmony of Japanese tea culture. What to Expect: Duration: 45 minutes Group Size: 2-4 people (minimum 2 adults to run the session) Experience Highlights: - Welcome Drink: Enjoy a refreshing tea upon arrival. - Tea ceremony basic overview: Gain insights into the history and evolution of the Japanese tea ceremony. - Introduction to Bonryaku Temae: Learn about the simplified procedure used for this experience. - Matcha Demonstration: Witness the preparation of matcha on a tray and table, blending tradition and modernity. - Tasting: Savor carefully selected matcha from Uji while learning basic tea etiquette. Seasonal Dessert: Enjoy a handmade vegan wagashi (traditional Japanese dessert). - Q&A. About Laura: Originally from Italy, Laura holds a degree in Japanese Language and Literature and has been living in Kyoto for 3 years. She has trained under expert tea masters and hosted tea events both in Japan and internationally. This session is perfect for those seeking a cultural yet approachable introduction to the Japanese tea ceremony.
