Lin Taiyu is born in Taiwan. He started learning Biwa from 2001 when he was in high school. In 2004, he joined the National Taiwan University Orchestra, where he was the deputy leader and concertmaster. In 2006, he received the Special Excellence Award at the Taiwan National Music Competition. He played in numerous Biwa concerts in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. Lin came to Japan in 2017 where he entered Kyoto University and got his PhD in 2021. He is now a postdoctoral researcher at Kyoto University and continues playing the Biwa in his free time. It is an immense honour to have him perform at MANDARACHA as a celebration of the Lunar New Year.
